While we're big promoters of using new technology to make our lives simpler, we realize that staring down one of our
BigBox DVD kiosks can be as tense as the few moments before a shootout in a old western! But have no fear -- our simple
guide will have you renting like a pro in no time!
All interaction with a BigBox DVD kiosk starts with a swipe of your credit card.
The first time that you swipe your credit card, you must agree to a set of
terms and conditions.
Once you have done that, there are 3 main processes that you need to know to successfully use a BigBox DVD kiosk:
How To Purchase Rental Credits
BigBox DVD doesn't charge your credit card behind the scenes like some other rental services.
Your card is charged at the point of contact when you purchase rental credits.
This is a security safeguard that ensures that your card is present for the transactions and that you know when and how much is being charged at all times.
When you first use a BigBox DVD kiosk, your card will be charged $1 for verification of your credit card.
That $1 amount is then available as rental credits. You must always have at least $1 of rental credits on your BigBox DVD account in order to rent a disc.
If you fall under $1 in rental credits, you can buy more by simply pressing the "Buy Rental Credits" button at the bottom of the main screen after you swipe your credit card at the kiosk.
You will then be prompted to swipe your card again, and then select the amount of credits ($5, $10, $15, or $20) that you wish to purchase.
Taxes are included in all of our prices, so you will be charged only what you select on-screen. Once the transaction is approved, your credits will now appear in the upper lefthand corner of the screen.
You can now rent or return your movie!
And only at BigBox DVD can you obtain up to 10% in free bonus rental credits by buying in increments of $10, $15, and $20. Please note that all rental credits purchased are non-refundable.
How To Select a Disc to Rent
Selecting a disc is simple on BigBox DVD. After swiping your card, simply press the "Rent" button.
You will immediately be presented with a list of DVD categories. If you wish to rent a Blu-ray Disc, simply press the "Blu-ray" button at the bottom of the screen and it will show you the Blu-ray categories.
You can find a movie either by selecting a category and scanning the list of titles, or you can use the search function by pressing the "Complete List" button, then pressing the search button (binoculars) on the right side of the screen.
When searching, type in the title or part of the title, then press the "Proceed" button. Please note that the search is use an "like" match algorithm, so if you are not entirely sure of the full title, simply enter the part that you know.
Once you find the movie you want, you can press the "Info" button to view how much it will cost to rent over certain periods of time. This is how you can determine if the DVD is a new release or an old release.
If you wish to rent the movie, just press the "Rent" button at the bottom of the screen. The next step will vary depnding on whether you are using a multi-user kiosk or a single-user kiosk.
At a single-user kiosk, when you press the "Rent" button, the kiosk will immediately retrieve the movie for you and push it out through the product slot.
On a multi-user kiosk, pressing the "Rent" button places a 10 minute reservation on that title for you.
To retrieve the movie from the kiosk, you need to move to the "Pickup/Return" station (the small screen) on the kiosk and swipe your card again. The kiosk will then retrieve the disc that you reserved and push it out through the product slot.
Please note that you can reserve more than one disc at the selection station before proceeding to pick up your discs on a multi-user kiosk.
Once you have your disc(s) you can enjoy the movie(s)!
How To Return a Disc
Returning a disc will vary slightly depending on whether you are using a single-user kiosk or a multi-user kiosk.
For a single-user kiosk, after swiping your credit card, simply press the "Return" button at the bottom of the touchscreen.
On a multi-user kiosk, be sure that you have swiped your credit card at the "Pickup/Return" station. The kiosk will automatically go into return mode on a multi-user kiosk.
The kiosk will then show a list of discs that you have currently rented and the fees due for each disc.
If you have enough rental credits for the return, you can slide the first disc into the product slot on the kiosk.
Be sure that the barcode on the disc is visible through the hole in the case and that the barcode is facing up. The kiosk will then attempt to return the disc.
If you do not have enough rental credits to pay for the return, the kiosk will push the disc back out to you through the product slot.
You must then purchase rental credits using the process above.
If there are sufficient rental credits on your account, the disc will be returned properly and you can proceed with returning another disc, if applicable.
